Chinese Poem with craft

I am amazed to see how quickly Evan learn to memorize and recite the Chinese poems. Besides reciting the poem, I let him do some craft associate with the poem. This week, we are learning a poem about bee.

【蜂】 作者:罗隐

  不论平地与山尖,无限风光尽被占。采得百花成蜜后,为谁辛苦为谁甜?

  提示:

  不论在平地或是山顶,都有蜜蜂在辛勤劳动,美好的风光几乎都有它的踪迹。采得花粉酿成蜜却属于他人,为谁辛苦为谁甜啊?

It is a easy craft. First, I let him draw and color few flowers. Then, he cut and paste them on a black paper. This is a collage technique.

Then, I poured some tempera yellow paint and asked him to do finger painting for the bee body.. This is a fun way to let small kid to experience the finger painting. I used some small brush to make the line on the bee body.

He used the white crayon to draw the wings on the bees.

I thought this is good to introduce to all other families with small kids at home who want to learn Chinese in fun way.

The website is : yes.com.cn

It is very interactive and fun to learn new Chinese words each day.

Learning new Chinese Words

Ethan is learning new Chinese words. I have to test him to see whether he remembers the words. Chinese is very difficult to learn. You have to memorize the character and how to pronounce it correctly.

Sometimes, I have to find a fun game for him to play and learn at the same time such as this matching words game.

Now, is Evan's turn to write Chinese

Teaching the boys to write Chinese is not an easy task especially when they are here in U.S. I started to train Ethan when he was 31/2 years old in writing simple words. Now, he can do better with more difficult words. Phew, that is a long harsh journey full of crying, whining, praising and complementing.

Now, is Evan's turn to start practicing the Chinese words. Chinese words is not like ABC. It is character instead of letter. They have to memorize the stroke, the right way to write and how to pronounce it. Hopefully, this little guy will not give me that much trouble as his big brother did to us especially me.......

Learning and writing Chinese

It has being two years now I taught Ethan how to write and learn Chinese words. I try to use many ways to inspire him. One of the ways is I wrote all the words he has learnt so far on the small cards and test him. Of course, I do not expect he knows all the words. I picked the cards randomly and asked him what is that words. If he knew it, I will put inside an envelope. If he has a hard time to recall that particular words, I will act that words out by doing some funny actions to let him guess. Most of the time, he is right. This is one of the fun way to see his mom acting funny and learns the words quick.

I then will ask him to write those words down and draw a pictures to depict its meaning.

This is the funny one. One of the word is underwear (内裤). He went to get his own underpant and drew a picture about it. LOL!

Learning to write Chinese

We being teaching Ethan to write Chinese since last year. It takes us a lot of effort to teach him. It is not easy to explain to him why he has to learn since he does not study Chinese in school. But I always tell him that it is good for him to learn because he can read the Chinese words in the newspaper or on the TV screen when we watch the Chinese programmes.
