Homemade alphabets puzzles

I reuse some food styrofoam tray to make the alphabet puzzles for Evan to match up the big and small letters. He is learning to recognize the letters and this is one of the way to get him interest in learning.

First, I write the letters in big an small letter in one tray. Then, I cut the tray into two pieces in zig-zag way. He has to match up the letters with correct pieces.

Chalk Art by Ethan

Ethan drew a turtle and a snail.

The boys like to draw with chalks. This is one of the way to let them get interested in drawing. Ethan likes to draw different kinds of animals or other cartoon features. Evan just like to scribble. He will draw a line and tell me that is number one.

They like to play with the water while cleaning up their drawings too.

Learning 1,2,3

This is a great matching math game for the little kids. Evan is learning 123 and I try to find an interesting way to teach him. I have two set of 1 to 9 magnet with different size. I put one set in the order and let him match the numbers with other set. He is a bit slow compare with other kids about his age but he is learning well.

Learning Colors

I used two containers from the dimsum package and paste some color paper into it for Evan to learn his color. I collected some bottle caps from different colors and let him sort them inside the container.

I wrote the color in chinese words so that Ethan can recall what he had learn before. He did make some mistakes at first since it has been a while he learned these words. He then remembered them and put them in the right order.

Sun

It is raining these few days in Houston. I decided to let Evan make a "Sun" to scare the rain away. I found the craft idea from the website.

I traced his little hand and cutting into many pieces to glue along the unused lid from a container. He is having fun in putting his "hand" on the lid. I let him pick two gooey eyes to tape onto the sun and draw a big smile. It really scares the rain and it becomes a sunny day afternoon.

Quick Easy Playdough

My two sons enjoy doing this homemade play dough and they are having good time in shaping different kinds of things out of their imagination. This is the simple one and I have not try the one which need some cooking. The dough dry out easily if let outside for some time. But it is good to play with and it is safe for their two little hands.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup salt

1 cup flour

1/4 cup water

Have your child mix the flour and salt in a bowl then add water. Knead and squeeze the dough to make a clay consistency. You may need to add more water. Note: This dough doesn't last as long as the cooked recipes.

Playing Blocks

He did not notice that I was taking his picture secretly

Immediately, he looked at me with a " What" face.

Then, he ignored me again and kept building his blocks.

Still building and ignoring.

Suddenly..............a silly face again.
